The following is a list of those individuals who have been elected or appointed by the Governor of Missouri to serve as a Judge in Johnson County, Missouri. The information used to create list included historical records and the Official Manual – State of Missouri which is published by the Missouri Secretary of State on a biennial basis dating back to 1889.

In 1967, §478.570, RSMo  was adopted permanently assigning two Circuit Judges to serve in the 17th Judicial Circuit of Missouri.

Those Associate Circuit Judges in Division III have traditionally been assigned the duties previously assigned to Magistrates. Those Associate Circuit Judges in Division IV have traditionally been assigned the duties previously assigned to Probate Court Judges.

From 1947 to 1970 the Probate Court Judge served as ex officio magistrate.

The position of Magistrate was eliminated in 1976 with an amendment to article V of the Missouri Constitution. Effective January 2, 1979 Magistrates became Associate Circuit Judges.

In 1976, an amendment to article V of the Missouri Constitution abolished Probate Courts and transferred their jurisdiction to a Probate Division within the Circuit Court. This change was completed with the Court Reform and Revision Act of 1978. After January 2, 1979 the Probate Judge became an Associate Circuit Judge.
